In traditional ortography, some diacritics are often omitted if it doesn’t cause ambiguity.

In the ‘classical variant’ (KV), ⟨wo⟩ is also used in the word kwota and the ending -éwo/ewo; ⟨w⟩ can also denote the phoneme /w/ in the words rúw and znôw.

In the 1996 orthography, a silent ⟨w⟩ is sometimes written at the beginning of a word before ⟨ò⟩, ⟨ó⟩ and ⟨ù⟩.
